About the Role

Rocket Software is seeking a dynamic Director of Information Development to lead the Information Development (technical writing) team. As ID Director, you will provide vision, direction, and leadership to a vibrant, global team of technical writers and editors. You will work closely with the product, development, and UX teams to execute Rocket’s documentation strategy. The ideal candidate will enjoy the challenge of working with a diverse set of product lines, while continually striving to improve the quality of product documentation. This person will serve as a champion for the Information Development team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Define, manage, and communicate strategies for developing and delivering technical communication deliverables
  • Lead the ongoing modernization/redesign of technical communications to align with product development strategy and user needs
  • Collaborate with other functional leaders to scope, prioritize, and plan product development from an information development perspective
  • Drive increased efficiency across the Information Development team
  • Use benchmarks and performance metrics to track progress, while maintaining constant focus on business impact

  • Manage the Information Development team, including the editorial team and editorial initiatives

  • Provide direction, mentorship, and career development objectives for ID Managers/Supervisors
  • Manage publication cycles based on project roadmaps
  • Work across departmental boundaries to determine content strategy based on organizational goals
  • Identify user requirements by researching and analyzing user needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods
  • Partner with stakeholders from all levels of management
  • Evaluate tools and platforms for information development

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferred degree in Technical Writing
  • 8+ years in a lead or management role
  • 6+ years in content development management or strategy
  • 10+ years of technical writing experience
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Experience with content management, migration planning and execution
  • Background in DITA or other structured authoring methodology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience influencing, communicating, and driving change across cross-functional boundaries

  • Excellent organizational and data analysis skills


  • Knowledge of DITA and oXygen XML Editor
  • Knowledge and ability to work within green screen environments
  • Knowledge of UNIX-based platforms such as AIX and Linux
